Doug Metcalfe,
Chair
“Like most of our Member Families, we joined Philadelphia Family Pride because we wanted to find a community of LGBT families - both for us as parents and for our children. Since joining PFP as prospective parents, we have enjoyed the social events; developing a sense of community and making life-long friends; attending rallies at the state capital and meeting with our elected officials; participating in workshops to share our experience or advice with other parents; and attending many events and activities with other LGBT Families.”
Marc Berman,
Vice-Chair
“Being a part of Philadelphia Family Pride has enriched our lives. Our children see that there are many families just like theirs, and our family has formed wonderful friendships that have helped us as parents. The support, friendship, and sharing of good times with other Lesbian and Gay parents would not be possible without the existence of PFP. I encourage everyone to be a part of this warm and caring group.”
Lee Chudzinski,
Treasurer
"PFP is important to how my family perceives itself. PFP provides opportunities for us to interact within a gay friendly family environment where our family structure is the norm and not the exception."
Carmelina Lewis,
Secretary
“My family and I greatly appreciate PFP’s emphasis on personal equality, the integrity of the family, with all its wonderful diversity, and strong sense of community. We have enjoyed the support of a network of friends, as we share wonderful activities that are family-centered, educational and always a lot of fun. My children especially enjoy the New Year’s Party, visiting the Discovery Museum, the Zoo, and Color Me Mine. As they participate in these events, my son and daughter benefit from the opportunity to play with other children, from families that resemble their own, in an environment that is caring and accepting.”
Wendy Forbes,
Membership Committee Chair
“Philadelphia Family Pride gives me a sense of community with other LGBTQ parents. It is a place where our son, Dylan, can meet other children from all different types of families and feel safe to be anything he wants to be as he grows up. The events are educational and social but most of all fun for our children. Going to a PFP event for me is like going home, it is safe, friendly and comfortable, a place we can all be ourselves.”
Kevin Howley,
Fundraising/Finance Committee Chair
"PFP was my lifeline when I came to town. I was new to town and really didn't know very many single parents even before moving here. The group was a great way for me to connect with people dealing with similar issues - and make some great friends at the same time. PFP is here as much for parents as it is for the kids."
Chris Schwam,
Education/Advocacy Committee Chair
"Philadelphia Family Pride has always provided my family and me with a sense of community and belonging in world that doesn't always make gays and lesbians feel that way. While my family resides in a very accepting neighborhood, my son rarely sees a family that resembles his own. PFP makes him feel like he fits in!"
Andrea Konow,
Member-At-Large
"PFP has allowed my daughter to see her family alongside other families that are similar to her's---gay and lesbian families, adoptive families, families of color. It's given her the opportunity to see herself inside a family that may be different from many of the families at school, yet she knows that there is no less love in that family...or rules...or chores to do...or pets to feed."
Tom Buckley,
Member-At-Large
"Being a member of PFP has been a wonderful experience for our family. We've really felt a sense of belonging and community. It's particularly great for our two boys to have contact and interaction with other LGBT families. PFP organizes a lot of wonderful events that are both informative and fun."
Jennifer Raison, Community Coordinator
"The biggest benefit my family has enjoyed from Philadelphia Family Pride is time with other LGBT-parented families at the New Year's Brunch, Summer Picnic and Halloween Party. The casual interaction with other kids has helped our own sons explain the two-mom thing to their classmates without self-consciousness or embarrassment. What a great way to change the world."
